People of Egypt Bidding Farewell to the Prince

Our great Egyptian writer, the late Mohamed Gibriel, wrote a wonderful article titled “People of Egypt: Salah Hashem, the Seduction of Cinema” in the “People of Egypt” section of Al Kahera  newspaper (Issue No. 1106, dated September 28, 2021).

In this piece, he painted a portrait of the wandering horse—this writer of these lines—who was captivated by the genie of cinema and the films of Cinema Isis fin Saida Zeinab from a young age.

Mohamed Gibriel engaged in a heartfelt dialogue, writing with love about the thrilling adventure of life that this child experienced as he joined the ranks of great wanderers and stepped into the cocoon of mystical love, on the path of enlightenment.

We will miss you dearly, dear scholar , and we will never forget you. You honored us, overwhelmed us with your admiration and love, and you were a true reflection of your city, Alexandria. Through your writings, stories, and novels, you made it dwell in our hearts and souls, where we always breathe in the fragrance of the beloved sea—from Adham, Seif Wanly, and Sayed Darwish, to Constantine Cavafy, passing by Tawfiq Saleh, the daughters of Bahari, Mafrouza, the port, and Sidi Morsi Abu Abbas.

Les gens d’Égypte font leurs adieux au prince

Notre grand écrivain égyptien,  Mohamed Gibriel, a écrit un magnifique article intitulé “Gens d’Égypte : Salah Hashem, la Séduction du Cinéma” dans la rubrique “Gens d’Égypte” du journal Al-Qahera (numéro 1106, en date du 28 septembre 2021).

Dans ce texte, il a dressé le portrait du cheval errant—l’auteur de ces lignes—qui fut envoûté dès son enfance par la génie du cinéma et les films de Cinéma Isis.

Mohamed Gibriel dialogue avec lui et écrit avec amour sur cette aventure palpitante qu’a vécue cet enfant, qui rejoignit les rangs des grands marcheurs et entra dans le cocon de l’amour mystique, sur le chemin de la lumière.

Tu nous manqueras énormément, cher professeur, et nous ne t’oublierons jamais. Tu nous as honorés, comblés de ton admiration et de ton amour, et tu étais le reflet fidèle de ta ville, Alexandrie. Par tes écrits, tes récits et tes romans, tu nous l’as fait aimer, nous permettant d’y sentir toujours le parfum de la mer bien-aimée—depuis Adham, Seif Wanly et Sayed Darwish, jusqu’à Constantin Cavafy, en passant par Tawfiq Saleh, les filles de Bahari, Mafrouza, le port et Sidi Morsi Abu Abbas.
