Film “In Search of Rifaa”
A feature documentary by writer and director Salah Hashem Moustafa, presented under the auspices of the prestigious Bibliotheca Alexandrina at “Bayt Al-Sinnari” in the Sayeda Zeinab district in January.
The film In Search of Rifaa—produced in 2008, with a runtime of 1 hour and 40 seconds—is written and directed by the esteemed critic and documentary filmmaker Salah Hashem Moustafa, who resides in Paris, France. Mustafa has been honored by the “Egyptian Film Society,” one of the most respected cinematic organizations in Egypt, as well as by the “National Center for Cinema” and the Biennale of Arts.
The film will be screened in January 2025 in collaboration with and under the patronage of the prestigious Bibliotheca Alexandrina at “Bayt Al-Sinnari” in the Sayeda Zeinab district, as part of the celebration of the new Cinéma Isis website’s anniversary.
The event also marks the 20th anniversary of the founding of Cinéma Isis, the most prominent, widely read, and visited independent Arab cinematic website on the internet. The celebrations will include artistic and cultural activities throughout 2025, such as conferences, seminars, and festivals.
As part of the festivities, screenings of short and feature-length documentaries produced by the site over the past 20 years will be held. These films are directed by Egyptian filmmaker Salah Hashem and filmed and edited by renowned Lebanese artist Sami Lama, who resides in Copenhagen, Denmark. Additionally, the sixth edition of the mobile festival Jazz and Films: Music in Cinema, established in 2015, will be organized. This festival has previously held five successful editions with the participation and sponsorship of prominent cultural institutions such as Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Jesuit Egypt, HELOPOLIS Library, and the French Cultural Center.
